For the most part, I find it far easier to eat similar meals most of the time. Fish, meat, seafood, tempeh or tofu for my protein, along with large amounts of veggies or salads. Besides my weekly take-away from the local Sushi Bar, I simply rotate through my meals.

Occasionally, I’ll cook something a little different but this summer, with it being so hot for the last few months, I haven’t ventured into new areas. Like me, I think everyone gets stuck in that rut of “What shall we cook tonight?”, and stops trying new foods.

So three weeks ago, I made a pact with myself to have something I called ‘New Salad Sunday’. Every Sunday since, I’ve found a recipe I like the sound of, have bought the ingredients and made the dish. Surprising, I’ve found myself looking forward to the end of the week and exploring new foods — much more than I ever expected. It’s added a new dimension to my food and I’ve loved the discovery process as much as the food itself. It feels like a little bit of healthy stimulation.

Why not give it a go yourself? I think you’ll be surprised at how refreshed a simple change like this can make you feel.

Let me know how you get on!
